Why Induction of Labor at 39 Weeks Can Potentially Avoid Adverse Perinatal Outcomes
I worked on a research presentation about why the induction of labor at 39 weeks of gestation can potentially avoid adverse perinatal outcomes such as neonatal death after delivery or stillbirth. This study was done in England, specifically in the lower socioeconomic areas. There were two groups, the induction of labor group and the expectant management group. The expectant management group was the control group in which there were mothers with low-risk pregnancies who were able to go to 40 weeks or past and have a safe delivery. The results from this study confirmed that with having an induction at 39 weeks and giving birth between 39 weeks 0 days and 39 weeks and 6 days, there was a significant reduction in adverse perinatal outcomes.Â
