Political Research Methods: For five years, I have led teaching in quantitative research methods, having been identified by colleagues as one of the few staff members capable of delivering advanced training in this area. This role has allowed me to mentor students in statistical techniques, research design, and data analysis, ensuring they are equipped with skills essential for both academic and professional careers. Recent feedback from students highlighted how I made the module both highly accessible and engaging. For example, “Dale was very thorough about making sure the content was understandable and extremely helpful when it came to assessment advice,” and “Dale is an incredible teacher who is unbelievably helpful. He explains everything so well.”
European Politics: Teaching European politics provided me with opportunities to explore comparative case studies and institutional dynamics, helping students understand both the successes and challenges of EU integration and the politics of Brexit. I taught students the importance of connecting theoretical debates to contemporary political developments.
Security and Terrorism: Through teaching security and terrorism, I introduced students to the complexities of terrorism and counter‑terrorism, drawing on both historical and contemporary cases. Feedback from colleagues such as Dr Christopher Long has highlighted my ability to make difficult material engaging and accessible.
British Politics in Crisis: As convenor of this module, I have guided students through the evolving challenges facing British politics, encouraging them to critically assess constitutional debates, party dynamics, and public trust in institutions.
MA Violence, Terrorism, and Security: I have lectured on the MA Violence, Terrorism, and Security programme at Queen’s University Belfast, specifically on linked conflict and peace theories with empirical examples.
