By the end of this course, successful students will be able to:

Analyze, critically interpret, and evaluate primary works by J.R.R. Tolkien within their literary, historical, cultural, and interdisciplinary contexts.

I have never really done archival research of this level before, and really digging into the letters, books and other materials was eye-opening. This course also furthered my appreciation of the depth of Tolkien’s work and what he drew from for inspiration.

By the end of this course, successful students will be able to:

Strengthen research and writing proficiencies through various oral, written, and creative projects.

The IRP was difficult, stressful, but efficient and teaching me more about my writing style, and how to write papers. The Creative Project also forced me to look in weird places to find answers to random questions it brought up such as what kind of wood would work best for a shield.

By the end of this course, successful students will be able to:

Integrate and synthesize materials, concepts, perspectives, or methods from more than one discipline.

This was my first honors course where I felt the ability to really integrate my knowledge of Philosophy and being able to do so was amazing. Difficult, to be sure, but fulfilling in its end.

4. Discuss below how well our course has helped you meet SLO #4 below:

By the end of this course, successful students will be able to:

Adapt to new environments and developing technologies by using common digital multimedia tools.

This might be the only one where I didn’t learn much, beyond the new Google Sites, which is cool. The entire experience felt difficult to use through student interactions however; the previous system worked immensely better.
