Roppokai was founded with the purpose of contributing to the transmission of Daitoryu Aikijujutsu, while faithfully preserving and passing on the teachings of our predecessors—Koudou Horikawa and Seigou Okamoto.
The name “Roppō” (Six Directions) refers to heaven, earth, front, back, left, and right.
This concept was inspired by the words of Sokaku Takeda, and later expressed by Koudou Horikawa as follows:
“In budo, one must never think in flat, two-dimensional terms. Instead, one should always consider three-dimensional attack and defense. In other words, free and unrestricted movement is essential.”
Thus, “Roppokai” embodies the principle of freely adapting the body to respond to attacks from all directions, expressing the essence of three-dimensional movement in martial arts.
