This vast forested keyhole-shaped tomb is the largest tomb (古墳 Kofun) in Japan built in the early 5th century in the Sakai City in the southern part of Osaka. Despite being the boss of a larger complex of tombs Mozu Kofungun in Sakai, the identity of the tomb's owner has remained a mystery because the site is protected from outsiders.
This website is part of a project of Material Culture studies aims to understand human culture through objects. By examining this mysterious Daisen Kofun, it provides us a contest to look deeper into the Kofun period, the "unbroken imperial lineage", and the image of the Emperor in Japan.
