We are a group of members of Debtors Anonymous (D.A.) who have health issues. Health issues increase our expenses while decreasing our ability to earn. Health issues can also result in overwhelming medical debts. Health issues also make it difficult to work more to increase our earnings.
Many of us have long had an unhealthy relationship to money and work, but we scrambled along from month to month until we encountered a serious health issue. Then the sudden increase in expenses and drop in earning capacity forced us to confront our powerlessness and the unmanageability of our lives. D.A. offered us a way to cope with a situation that had become desperate.
We found hope in the loving support of members of the D.A. fellowship who understood our situation. In addition to our health issues, we also had a spiritual illness. The Steps and Tools of Debtors Anonymous helped us achieve clarity and change deeply embedded habits of doing, thinking, and being.
Working the D.A. program, especially with the support of other D.A. members with health issues, brought us serenity and gave new meaning to our lives. We found that it is possible to achieve solvency (abstaining from new unsecured debt) even with health issues, and even on a limited income. If you try our program, you may find it will help you, too.
