Digital media courses were first offered at KCAD in 1995 and over several years included imaging, sound, video, 2D & 3D animation as well as interactive design in both the Illustration and Graphic Design programs.
In 2006, the courses from the Illustration and Graphic Design programs were combined to form Digital Art & Design (originally called Digital Media) in 2006 as an inter-disciplinary, NASAD accredited, BFA program that enables students to create focused portfolios in 2D animation, 3D game art, digital imaging, interaction design, and video & motion graphics. The program has grown from about 60 (in 2006) to a peak of about 170 students with alumni employed at venerable companies like Google, MTV, IMBD, VML, RGA, Priority Health, Blizzard, EPIC games, Disney, DreamWorks, GURU, and Twitch.
