Submission Process

The submission period for 2026 Participatory Budgeting proposals has closed. The submission timeline for the next round of Participatory Budgeting proposals will be announced in the spring of 2027.

ELIGIBILITY

Successful project proposals will meet all of the following criteria for eligibility:

• Proposals must be submitted by neighborhood associations, non-profits, merchant groups, or institutions located in District 7. 

  • Authoring entities not located in District 7 will be ineligible.

  • Individual residents and businesses must be sponsored by an organization.

• Proposals should fit into one of the following priority areas:

  • Health & Safety -- public safety, public health investments

  • Neighborhood Beautification -- murals and maintenance of public space

  • Vision Zero -- traffic calming, crosswalks, public parklets

  • Let's go San Francisco -- vibes, baby!

• Proposals must be for new projects that respond to a demonstrated community need. 

• Only one proposal per author/group can be submitted. 

• Proposals must be a one-time expenditure.

• Proposals must benefit District 7 residents.

• Proposals must receive a minimum of 400 votes to be eligible for funding. 

FUNDING

In order to have successful community projects, we have increased the grant amounts to be allocated to projects. Projects can receive grants up to $50,000 in  funding. A total of $400,000 will be available for general projects and a total of $150,000 will be available for the category of Vision Zero.

SUBMISSION PROCESS

Proposals must include all of the following to be considered:

• Contact information for the proposer and project lead (if different) 

• Detailed description of the proposed project

• Detailed budget for the proposed project

• Priority Area(s) addressed

• Neighborhoods and or communities served

• Description of community support for proposed project

SELECTION PROCESS

The first step in the process is a review by the city department that would execute the project. If the city department determines any of the following, the proposal is inelligbile for Participaroty Budgeting funds:

• The project is not on city-owned property

• The project would cost well above $50,000

• The project or activity is not within the scope of public work or activity

The next step is for a Community Review Committee to review all elligible proposals, and score them on a set criteria. The committee is comprised of District 7 community members with subject-matter expertise or deep neighborhood roots and knowledge, and members are selected by Supervisor Melgar. 

The proposals that receive the highest Community Review Committee scores are then put to a public vote by District 7 residents aged 17 and above.
