This project is one of seven segments to upgrade Route 46 from a two-lane conventional highway to a four-lane expressway east of Paso Robles. The landscape scope covered landform grading, erosion control, replacement planting for biological and visual impacts, and Cottonwood Forest creation and restoration. This project received the 2015 Excellence in Transportation award in the Rural Highway category for engaging stakeholders, protecting visual and scenic quality, preserving the environment, and innovative use of landform grading to blend the roadway with the rural setting and rolling topography.
