District 38 Workshop Survey: Results and What Happens Next

District 38 asked members to help plan future workshops. We sent out a survey. 43 members answered. Thank you to everyone who took the time to respond.

What You Told Us

The survey asked which workshop topics you want most. Here is what people picked most often:

1. Sponsorship in Deaf AA — 19 votes (44%)

2. The Twelve Steps — 18 votes (42%)

3. Long-Term Sobriety — 18 votes (42%)

4. Welcome to AA — 17 votes (40%)

5. Family and Relationships — 15 votes (35%)

6. Dual Diagnosis — 15 votes (35%)

7. Spirituality in Recovery — 15 votes (35%)

Other topics also got good support. These include Traditions and How AA Works, Steps 1-2-3 Deep Dive, LGBTQ+ and Deaf AA, and AA and Technology.

Some members also wrote in their own ideas. These included a workshop on Anonymity, and a workshop on advocacy and Deaf accessibility in the wider AA community. District 38 is looking at these ideas for future workshops.

We also asked how long people have been in AA. Most people who answered, 60%, have more than 10 years of sobriety. But 26% have less than 3 years. This tells us our workshops need to help both new members and long-time members.

The New Workshop Calendar

Using these results, District 38 built a new workshop schedule. Workshops will happen every two months and will be up to one hour long, as agreed during our Deaf District 38’s June 14th meeting. Here is the possible plan: Plan can be subject to change due to some curriculums if needed.

• October 10, 2026 — Welcome to AA: A Deaf Perspective

• December 12, 2026 — Sponsorship in Deaf AA

• February 13, 2027 — The Twelve Steps

• April 10, 2027 — Long-Term Sobriety

• June 10, 2027 — Family and Relationships

• August 14, 2027 — Dual Diagnosis

After this, District 38 plans a second round of workshops starting October 2027. Spirituality in Recovery is planned to open that next round.

Thank You

Thank you to all 43 members who took the survey. Your answers shaped this plan. District 38 is also looking at governance workshops, like GSR School and The Twelve Concepts of AA, to support our service structure.

The Ad Hoc Committee also recommends establishing a separate Service Track for topics like GSR School and The Twelve Concepts of AA. These sessions will be paired with existing district business meetings to better support our service structure without impacting the main workshop calendar.
