Grade Calculator for D2L Brightspace (formerly “D2L Grade Calculator”) (“the Extension”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information the Extension accesses, how that information is used, where it is stored, and how it is protected.
The Extension has no servers, no analytics, no ads, and no accounts. All grade calculations happen locally in your browser.
Information the Extension Accesses
When you click the Extension’s icon on a D2L / Brightspace page, the Extension uses your existing D2L session in that tab to read, from your school’s D2L site:
your list of courses
each course’s grade setup (categories, weights, drop rules, bonus items, excluded items, and grade scheme)
your released grade values, including assignment names, earned points, total possible points, and D2L’s official final grade when your instructor has released it
if D2L’s API is unavailable, the grades table on the page you have open
This information is accessed only so the Extension can calculate your current grade, the best and worst grade you can still finish with, what you need on the remaining work, and hypothetical what-if scenarios. These requests go only to your school’s D2L site. If you click the icon on a page that is not D2L, the Extension does not contact that site.
Optional Features
The Extension has three optional features: MyUI, Grades inside D2L, and Make D2L Yours. All three are off by default. If you turn one on, Chrome asks you to allow the Extension on your school’s D2L site only. You can turn these features off, or remove the site access, at any time from the Extension’s Customize tab.
When MyUI is on, the Extension also reads the following from your school’s D2L site so it can display them in MyUI:
upcoming due items, overdue items, and calendar events
course announcements and course content
your assignment folders, including your own submissions, feedback, rubric scores, and feedback files
quizzes, discussion topics and posts (including whether each post has been read), and course classlists
unread-update counts, your content completion progress, and recently viewed content
Some MyUI actions run only when you click them:
“Download” on a content module fetches that module’s files from your school’s D2L and packs them into a zip file on your computer
“Export to calendar” creates a calendar file from your deadlines on your computer
The optional “Keep me signed in” setting is off by default. When turned on, it sends a small request to your school’s D2L site about every 10 minutes, for up to 4 hours, so D2L does not sign you out while the tab is open.
None of this information is sent anywhere except between your browser and your school’s D2L site.
How Information Is Used
The Extension uses accessed information only to provide its features inside your browser. This includes:
showing your current calculated grade and how it compares with D2L’s own totals
letting you enter hypothetical scores and add hypothetical assignments
letting you exclude or include specific assignments and edit category weights
showing the average you need to reach a target grade
showing your grades, deadlines, course content, feedback, and discussions in MyUI, if you turn it on
showing a grade panel on D2L’s Grades page and grades on course tiles, if you turn those on
The Extension does not send your grade data, browsing data, or personal information to the developer or to anyone else.
Local Storage
The Extension stores the following on your device, in Chrome’s extension storage:
your what-if scores, hypothetical assignments, excluded items, weight edits, letter-grade scales, credits, and goal targets, saved per course
your Customize choices, including feature on/off settings, colors and theme options, light/dark/system appearance, and reading options (dyslexia-friendly font, high contrast, larger text, and reduced motion)
MyUI preferences: course tile colors, uploaded tile images, course nicknames, hidden courses, items you mark as done, your own tasks, assignments the Extension has seen you submit, recent searches, and the last content item you opened in each course
whether you have seen the welcome tour, and timing for the support and review prompts
To load faster, the Extension also keeps short-lived copies of grade and course information:
the popup keeps a copy in Chrome’s session storage, which lives in memory only and is cleared when you close Chrome
MyUI keeps a copy for a few minutes in that D2L tab’s session storage, which is deleted when you close the tab
If Make D2L Yours is on, a copy of the generated theme stylesheet is saved in your D2L site’s local storage so your theme appears without a flash. It contains no grade data.
This data stays on your device and is used only to support Extension functionality.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, share, transfer, or disclose your grade data or any other user data to third parties. The Extension does not use your data for advertising, creditworthiness, lending, or any purpose unrelated to its features.
Third-Party Links
When the Extension is first installed, it opens its welcome page and the developer’s Buy Me a Coffee page in a separate tab next to it. Support links inside the Extension also open that page. When you remove the Extension, Chrome opens a short optional Google Form asking why you uninstalled it. The form opens without any grade data, settings, or identifiers attached, and you choose whether to submit it.
Buy Me a Coffee and Google Forms are operated by third parties. Any information you provide on those websites is governed by that third party’s own privacy policy and terms. The Extension does not share any of your data with them.
Data Retention
Settings and what-if scenarios stay in your browser’s local storage until you reset a course in the Extension’s settings or remove the Extension. Items you mark as done and remembered submissions are cleared automatically about 60 days after their due date. Session copies are cleared when you close the tab or close Chrome.
Data Security
All grade calculations and processing happen locally on your device, and grade information is never transmitted to the developer. No method of storage or software is perfectly secure, but we designed the Extension to minimize data handling and to keep your information private within your browser.

Grade Calculator for D2L Brightspace is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by D2L Corporation or any school. Brightspace and D2L are trademarks of D2L Corporation. Grade calculations are estimates, so please confirm important numbers with your instructor or syllabus.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the Extension or our privacy practices. Any updates will be posted on this page with a revised “Last Updated” date.
