What is Key Club?
Key Club is the oldest and largest service program for high school students. It is a student-led organization that teaches leadership through service to others. Members of the Kiwanis International family, Key Club members build themselves as they build their schools and communities. Key Club has approximately 260,000 members in approximately 5,000 clubs. Key Club is represented in 37 countries.
Our History
Key Club International
The first Key Club was formed in Sacramento, California in 1925. Two Sacramento Kiwanis Club member, Albert C. Olney and Frank C. Vincent came up with the idea of Key Club. In 1943, Key Club became an international organization. It used to be an only boys club but became co-ed in 1977. In 1999, the total number of members hit 200,000!
California-Nevada-Hawaii District
Sacramento, Monterey, Oakland Technical, Hemet, and Stockton (now Edison) High Schools were the first five officially chartered Key Clubs. In 1947, it was determined that a new district should be created. The first District Governor of the California-Nevada District was John Cooper of Oakland Technical High School and the first official California-Nevada District Convention was held in 1948, with participants from 23 Key Clubs in the district. The California-Nevada District included Hawaii after McKinley High School Key Club was chartered in 1952.
Our Pledge
“I pledge on my honor to uphold the objects of Key Club International;
to build my home, school and community;
to serve my nation and world;
and combat all forces which tend to undermine these institutions.”

Our Region's History
Region 18 contains all the clubs in Hawaii. In 2013, Region 18 had a realignment of divisions because there were too many clubs. The Region was then split into 3 different divisions: 22 Hikina, 22 Komohana, and 22 Makai. Hikina, meaning East, has all the schools on the east side of Oahu. Komohana, meaning West, has all the schools on the west side of Oahu. Makai, meaning Ocean, has all the schools on Kauai, Maui, and Hawaii (or Big Island).
