Janice Malone is a native Charlestonian and product of Charleston County School District, a proud graduate of Burke High School. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Special Education from The College of Charleston and her Med in Elementary Administration and Supervision from The Citadel. Mrs. Malone started her 38-year tenure as a teacher in Charleston’s very first creative arts school, Ashley River Creative Arts Elem. in 1984. After ten years in the classroom, she served as Assistant Principal there for two years. Mrs. Malone has had the honor of turning around three Title I schools in Charleston, each receiving high honors, one of which was recognized as The National Title I School of South Carolina. Mrs. Malone was named Elementary Star Principal of CCSD in 2012.
Mrs. Malone’s passion and purpose remain at the school level. She is currently serving as the principal of Sanders-Clyde Creative Arts Elementary. After its first year under her leadership, the school was recognized as making the greatest academic progress, according to NWEA MAP, of all elementary schools in the district. Seeing the need of the community firsthand, Mrs. Malone’s vision of supporting families to better support students was actualized through a feeder system proposal, titled D20PCP, District 20 Principal Collaboration Program. Funded by ESSER (Elementary and Secondary Schools Emergency Relief), this program is slated to be a game changer.
Janice Malone is a servant leader. She loves being ‘the boots on the ground’. Her work in schools, specifically Title I schools, stands on the premise, “We don’t pity, we empower our scholars!” Mrs. Malone is married to Reverend Calvin Malone, and they are the parents of two adult children Paisley and Khalil.
