In In the past, the waters of the Pamisos River were clean, as they came down from the crystalline springs of Agrafa. People and animals drank from them. When the river flooded, it left mud in the flooded areas and it made the estates rung. On its banks grew towering plane trees, willows, elms and other trees, which gave their cool shade to people and animals. Freshwater fish lived in its rich and clear waters (eg trout & brown trout). The locals were fishing, while in the favored spots they were bathing and cooling off. Moreover, on its banks the women washed their clothes and their coverings.
The Kalentzis river is a tributary of Pinios, it is about 40 km long. Its sources are in the area of Apidia (Kaprovouni Agrafon). It merges outside Karditsa with Karabalis and flows into Pinios. Kalentzis is of vital importance for the irrigation of the arable lands of the region, while in the past several watermills operated with its waters. Sand is taken from the river bed for road paving.
It originates from the peaks of Mount Itamos and joins the Kalentzis north of Karditsa. It is 25 km long. In the old days, the fields of the area were irrigated by the waters of the river and the locals used to fish or swim in the river. In addition, in this particular river the Karditsiotes celebrated Clean Monday, with a feast, a Lenten meal and a dance with a "Carousel".
It comes from the village of Mitropoli and passes through the western side of Karditsa. It heads towards Artesiano – Rizovouni, joins Pamisos and continues its journey towards the village of Agia Triada. In earlier years, young and old fished in its waters with canisters or nets. The fish they caught were heads or butchers. Also, in its cool waters many locals learned to swim and cooled off.
