There were 3 species Pteroptyx Tener, Pteroptyx Malaccae, and Pteroptyx Valida. Each species differ in size, location, and type of flickering. The Pteroptyx Tener species are mostly found along the Selangor river. The Pteroptyx Tener size is about 4-6 mm. This species flashes about 3.7 times per second. Pteroptyx Malacca species can be spotted in the area downstream of the Selangor River. Its size is about 5-6 mm and repeatedly flashes every 30 seconds. The final species is Pteroptyx Valida. The number of fireflies is very small and are usually found at the end of the canopy of the “Pokok Peragaan”. This specific species size is mostly 8-10 mm and 1 flash in an 8-second gap. The firefly habitats area has been gazetted as a Mukim Pasangan Protection Zone under the Selangor Water Management Board Law.
