Cyborg Dreams is a science fiction/fantasy trilogy by author H.A. Burns. It has all the elements of a blockbuster movie with futuristic concepts/technology thrown into the everyday world of quirky characters. Featuring everything from witty comedic relief to imaginative dreamscapes (and a little drama, romance and thrills) the fun-paced storytelling will keep you entertained to the very end.
The first novel "The Mind of Mine" introduces Catherine Newton: a mousy-but-neat English teacher assigned to a small desert mining town in Colorado, one of those conclaves that sprung up after the War of 2020 had decimated all the major cities in the US. Catherine is doing well here ... maybe. She has a handsome boyfriend. A protective dog. A concerned principal. A silver-level student in her homeroom class. Fellow teachers not to be trusted, of course. So why was she having these strange nightmares -- a cyborg demanding she help him shut down the mine? Step into this future world that seems almost normal ... until it isn't.
The second novel "The Buried Past" details how to accidentally become a cyborg and is the origin story of Daniel from the first Cyborg Dreams novel. How do you become a cyborg? Simple: tragedy. Lose a limb, lose an eye or two… and have an evil brother. Dr. Daniel Jahren never meant to become what he did, but his brother Cliff sure did. Suffering from muscular dystrophy his whole life, Cliff Jahren endeavored to transcend his body when he realized he couldn’t repair it. He needs the help of his reluctant brother Daniel, a neurosurgeon, to create the most state of the art prosthetics ever imagined. But Daniel is too busy trying to have a normal life and even a wife. Unfortunately for Daniel, Cliff isn’t about to let anything get in the way of his cyborg dreams.
In the third and final installment "The Awakening" you find out what ultimately happens to Catherine from the first book and Daniel from the second. Catherine is asked to travel to post-apocalyptic LA in order to find something that Daniel tells her will save the world. In this thrilling adventure she meets many fantastic characters, including a dwarf warlord who rides on Komodo dragons and an anarchist gang led by a man named Cybersausage. She struggles with who to trust, and who to love, as she both loses and finds herself. Will she succeed in saving the world? Will a giant rat pop out and eat someone? You'll have to read to find out.
