The mohara water treatment plant is situated in Balurtal, Chandgaon, Chittagong, Dhaka, Bangladesh. This water treatment plant was built in december 1987 under the second Chittagong water supply project . The production capacity of Mohara water treatment plant is about 20 million gallon per day ( MGD ) and is operating round the clock with it's full capacity . The river Halda at a point nearly half a mile upstream from it's confluence with river Karnafuli .
The total area of Chittagong and Sub-urban areas ( including proposed Hathazari and Sitakunda ) is around 270 sq. km between 1974 ( 77sq. km ) and 2007, the built - up area has increased by around 250% . This kind of growth presents tremendous challenges to the utility authorities in providing utility services . CWASA is striving hard to keep pace with the city development.
