The Department of Sociology was established at the Comilla Victoria College as early as 1993 (academic session of Masters preliminary 1993-94). and after one year the students of this session allowed to complete Master’s final (academic session 1994-95). B.S.S (Hons) has been run since 1997, Professor Mst.Momena Akter khodeja was the founder chairmen of this department. Therefore, I am pleased to welcome to the website of the Department of Sociology at Victoria College, Comilla, Bangladesh. Department of sociology offers a unique opportunity of knowledge. The B.S.S. and M.S.S courses are conducted under the guidance of National University, Bangladesh and the H.S.C course curriculum is provided by NCTB and controlled by Comilla board. The teachers are responsible for conducting class, taking internal examinations and their services are controlled by government service rules of the people’s republic of Bangladesh. Here, I am pleased to provide information about the current and prospective students, faculty and staff, and curricula of the department. This website is updated with news, events and announcements relevant to the discipline of Sociology. I hope you find your visit a pleasant one. The Department strives to give students a diverse exposure to and understanding of sociology, offering 30 more courses, ranging from Theoretical Sociology to Criminology. Over the years, the department has put strong emphasis both to the theoretical and practical preparation of its students.
Comilla Victoria government College
Comilla Victoria Government College is a government college located in Comilla district of Bangladesh. It is the oldest and most famous college in Comilla. Comilla Victoria College was established in 1899. It was founded by Rai Bahadur Anandachandra Rai in the name of Queen Victoria. He was associated with the legal profession and was passionate about education. He spent a huge amount of money to establish this college. The college took its final shape through his efforts. After the establishment of the college, the British government bestowed upon it the title of Rai Bahadur. To preserve his memory, a white marble plaque has been erected at the main entrance of Victoria College's Intermediate section. The first chairman of the college was Satyendranath Basu, who served as chairman for almost three decades from the inception of the college. This college is affiliated with the National University of Bangladesh. Currently, the college offers Honours courses in 22 subjects, and almost all of them have Masters courses available.
