Call for Book Chapter:

Recent Advances in Computer Vision Applications Using Parallel Processing

The accepted chapters will be published in an edited book by the prestigious Studies in Computational Intelligence Series by Springer.

Introduction

During the last few years the parallel architectures (e.g., multi-core CPUs, GPUs, and multi-GPUs) achieved promising results in the different fields of computer sciences. The strong demand of fast parallel processing of data results in design and implementation of digital processor in a number of different architectures. Nowadays, parallel architectures offer very high levels of parallelism for the sequential algorithms in computer vision. The design of the multi-core CPUs and many-core processors make them suitable for development of computer vision and digital image processing systems. Many examples for parallelizing the computer vision applications exist, such as parallel moment computations, and parallel image segmentation.

Book Objectives

This textbook aims to provide the readership with the recent parallel architectures that can be used to accelerate the computer vision and image processing applications. Into the bargain, it supplies the researchers of the computer vision researchers with a set of accelerated software tools that can perform the desired tasks in extremely fast manner. For parallel processing researchers, the textbook provides them with a set of parallel methodologies that fitting the computer vision applications. Also, the open problems of parallelizing the sequential computer vision algorithms and applications will be exposed.

The ultimate goal of this textbook is to bridge the gap between the computer vision & image processing and parallel processing fields. That goal can be achieved through reviewing the recent efforts and recommendation to transfer the sequential computer vision & image processing algorithms and applications into parallel counterparts using the suitable methodologies.

Target Audience

The proposed book would benefit advanced students and researchers. The collection of papers in the book may serve to inspire future researchers, and PhD students may find the contents of this book useful in their coursework.

In particular, researchers interested in real-time computer vision, image & signal processing techniques research would benefit the most from the book. After all, the enriched contents of the book would always be a subject of interest to faculty, research communities, and researchers who aspire to create new and innovative research initiatives. Hopefully, the book will bring together researchers of two different research backgrounds, parallel processing and computer vision, and inspire new research groups.
