Minor Hawks
MinorHawks is a Learn-to-Play Hockey program sponsored by the Chicago Blackhawks and offered through CUYHA. This low-cost program is for boys and girls age 5-8 years old** who are new to hockey and want to "suit up" in full gear and try this great game! It is specifically designed to teach NEW hockey players how to skate.
For our 5- 8 year old players, 8U Hockey follows the guidelines of the American Developmental Model (ADM) that have been adopted by USA Hockey (www.admkids.com). For 8-and-under hockey programs, the Red, White and Blue Hockey initiative "promotes the integration of cross-ice practices and games into youth hockey", with a goal of "raising the level of creativity among players, increase player participation, and create a positive environment for kids to play, love and excel."
8U Cross-ice Jamborees
These will involve cross-ice game play with other 8U players in CUYHA, along with 8U players from local youth organizations.
Cost: $85
Each session is 8 weeks, with one practice per week. The fee for each session includes rental of all equipment needed to get started and on-ice instruction by experienced coaches.
Minimum number of skaters is 25. Maximum number of skaters is 50. The program will be canceled and a full refund given if the minimum number of skaters is not met. The session typically fills very quickly, so plan to register soon after the online form is available.
**The minimum age allowed for registration will be determined by the child’s age at the end of the session for which they want to register. For example, a child who turns 5 in December could sign up for the fall Minor Hawks session.
