President’s Letter, February 2018

Fellow members’ one new initiative from our new collective agreement has started with the employer. We will begin to have discussions on employee benefits. Now these talks are in the early stages, nothing is confirmed at this point.

If anyone has a thought as to what benefits, we as members would like to see, such as dental, prescription drugs vision etc, please email me so they can be included in the talks and help to define what benefits our members feel are the most important. For members who have extended health benefits from another source (i.e. veteran’s affairs, spouse’s benefits plan through their workplace) there will be discussions on this issue as well.

The AGM is on 27 March 2018 at the Esquimalt Legion at 1900. At the meeting, we will be approving the budget, our revised bylaws and picking the upcoming negotiating team for late this year or early 2019. Copies of the draft bylaws will be available on line to view prior to the meeting. We are awaiting the final review of the printed collective agreement. We hope to have copies prior to the AGM for distribution.

In April, members of your executive will be attending the Triennial meeting of the PSAC in Toronto. These meetings have opportunities to meet with fellow union members from across Canada and to attend training sessions for members of local executives.

Your local executive has a busy couple of months ahead so please stay tuned and check the web page for updates.
