2018 PSAC B.C. Health and Safety Conference

The 2018 BC Regional Health and Safety Conference will take place December 15-16 at the Radisson Hotel in Richmond. The objective of the conference is to create a forum for health and safety activists to reflect, discuss and take action on health and safety issues so we can improve the health of our members by raising awareness and preventing injuries and occupational diseases. The next meeting of the BRUSH Committee has been rescheduled to Wednesday, December 4 at 5:30pm in the 3rd floor boardroom of the Vancouver Regional Office (5238 Joyce Street, Vancouver, BC). There will not be a meeting on November 14.

2018 PSAC B.C. Regional Young Workers' Summit

The 2018 PSAC B.C. Regional Young Workers’ Summit will be held November 24 - 25 at the Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver under the theme Shaping Our Future Now. The objectives of the Young Workers’ Summit areto gather PSAC Young Workers in B.C. to learn more about their union; to provide an opportunity to hear from, share experiences and challenges with those in leadership positions; to gain skills and tools on how to effect change in our political landscape; and to challenge participants to develop their own political action skills and empower them to bring these skills to their respective Young Worker Committees.

PSAC members in good standing and who self-identify as a young worker (35 years or younger), are encouraged to apply to attend - more information and registration here.

Municipal / Local Government Elections

The next general local elections in British Columbia are on October 20, 2018. We have heard from several PSAC members who are planning to run for office and are happy to see members getting involved in politics and the community.

If you are a PSAC member planning to run in the election please let us know. We also encourage you to seek the endorsement of your local Labour Council, for more information contact the REVP Office.

The winter/spring weekend course schedule is complete, watch for the full fall schedule coming soon.

Tools for Stewards and Local Activists

PSAC will be offering webinars for members who volunteered to be Pay Advocates on how to address common problems with Phoenix. Participants will explore the steps to take when handling pay problems that occur due to transfer of positions or overtime. They will also explore the claims process when employees are seeking reimbursements for costs incurred due to Phoenix errors, such as paying interest on loans. PSAC Scholarships

PSAC offers 14 scholarships for dependent children of PSAC members and three scholarships for PSAC members who will be attending university, college or a recognized institute of higher learning on a full-time basis during the 2018-2019 academic year. Applications are now open.
