Revolution, June, 2025
The second tournament of Revolution’s fifteenth rotation concluded this past month at Grand Prix Shigane Manor! As players become increasingly settled into the new card pool in our first double rotation, players brought back old strategies in exciting new contexts to compete at our monthly GP. 22 players competed in GP Shigane Manor, bringing with them 16 decks that ran the spectrum from RB Aggro to UW Control. But by far the biggest development this season was the return of golems, a 3+ color deck drawing upon the trio of Unspeaking, Unyielding, and Unflinching Titan from Chikyu: Chaos Rains. This deck offers a unique spin on a typal strategy, trading density of typal threats for an extremely high upside when you do turn them on. While a known quantity going into the tournament, Titan decks preyed upon the damage-based removal employed in aggro and midrange decks, leading to an impressive 75% top-cut conversion rate.
Going into the finals, we had a long-coveted golems mirror match (and a grudge match, at that!): DrChipmunk vs. Platypeople. While both Chipmunk and Platypeople brought golems decks to the tournament, they brought slightly different builds, with distinct strengths and weaknesses. Platypeople’s version of the deck was a more all-in 4-color deck, featuring Herald of Awakening and Slumbering Grove as a small package to fix for colors while inflating the deck’s golem count, and using Extraction Mission to recur any golems lost to removal or suveilled/discarded away, allowing the deck to achieve some very explosive starts and to recover even from sparse board states.
Chipmunk, by contrast, brought a more midrangey 3-color version of the deck, which traded some of the explosiveness and resilience of Platy’s build in favor of a more disruptive gameplan, packing counterspells and some value sources that don’t rely on golems to be good like Chronicle of Precedence and Root Fossil. What’s more; this isn’t the first time these two decks had faced each other this tournament—Platypeople handed Chip her first and only loss this tournament in round 3. But this time around, Chip wouldn’t be beaten so easily—despite being on the draw, she managed to take Platy down in just two games, winning a coveted spot in next year’s Revolution World Championship!
Well-fought to both our competitors! How will the format shake up now that golems is a known quantity going into next month? With Cybaros buffs on the horizon, and the return of the fan-favorite curators cube, remember—the best time to join the revolution is now!
