Community Card Bash

Hello everyone, and welcome to the first Custom Magic Community Card Bash (CCB), where we’re asking YOU for designs from across your projects to construct a draft environment that others can play, discuss, and enjoy! The premise is quite simple. We’ve got a play booster skeleton locked and loaded for designers to check, a channel for them to discuss what they’ll be putting in, and a vote-based submission system for getting designs into the slots!

The idea for this sort of community event stems from my long held belief that custom designers really ought to play with their custom cards, as well as being inoculated with other designers’ interesting ideas. One element that I noticed in the custom space is that people really really don’t like to make commons. What gives?? Commons are super cool and set the basis of a lot of how sets play out. But time and time again, I’ll see designers either get stumped or just give up once they start making commons. I’ll hear things like “What does blue even do” “Green Sucks to design commons for” “What is it with colorless not being able to do anything at common” or the worst being “Commons don’t get to do anything cool!”

Of course, this all sucks to hear and see! So I came up with an idea to help let people who tend to struggle at that point see a completely different world when it comes to making designs. Other people. With the chance to design around others, the goal is to also encourage designers who only really tend to make a few designs to participate, since they may have something that really helps make a draft environment exiting, and yes, even at common!

To help facilitate this, I got help from quite a lot of people across custom magic, and I even picked up a couple of people who can help us run the event while its going to reduce the load on any one person, letting people play to their strengths!

Hm, it seems like without the requisite number of designs to fuel it, BRAININAJAR has shut down. We’re getting better at understanding this eccentric program, but we’ll likely have to take at least a few months off to see if we can get it up and running again. Until then, keep honing your design skills in the Custom Magic Discord Server's Feedback channel, and if BRAININAJAR ever wakes back up, we hope you’ll all be ready to show it the best you’ve got!
