The processes involved with swimming pool design can often be far more involved than many people consider. Not only will planning permission need to be applied for and a dilapidation report carried out in certain instances; but there are a host of factors that will need to be considered. Fortunately, swimming pool construction companies are at the forefront of these activities.
These agencies typically employ a range of specialists, including designers, builders and support personnel to help with all processes relating to the design.
First of all, measurements will need to be taken to define the size and space available for any pool to be built. Not everyone will have a lot of room in their garden, but fortunately there are options to have more uniquely designed swimming pools to cater to the area available. A marker will typically be placed to denote the rough centre of the pool.
The marker will be used as a ‘run-through’ whereby further measurements will take place that take into account the length and width of the pool. For swimming pools that are more uniquely shaped (such as L shapes), the centre will be used to calculate the distance from one side to the next. Once this data has been documented, the total metre square coverage for the pool can be calculated.
Once the space available has been worked out, the next thing to do is to look at the types of pools that will be available to you. Most design companies will have a portfolio of options available and this is why it can be helpful to work alongside an advisor to see which styles can be installed in the space that has been calculated.
Once a design has been chosen the construction process will typically begin, which will usually start with a hole being dug to define the rough shape of the pool. This hole will then be tidied and prepared for foundations to be laid. Most foundations will be made from mild or structural steel and then housed to keep them resistant to water damage.
With the foundations laid, the first batch of cement will be applied and after a day or two, the second and third will follow. The cement will act as the main body of the pool, but it will need covering to avoid liquid damage. Once set, a layer of waterproof film will be applied, followed by tiles to suit the home owner’s preference.
Parts will be left until last to allow for filters and run off points to be connected to the main water supply and lastly a pump will be installed internally whilst leading to an external facility. There are many other events that will take place during the construction, but the above are the general tasks that will need to be carried out.
