Military Appreciation Month

NOVEMBER

Cushing ISD proudly recognizes all United States veterans that are part of the Cushing community.  Each November, community members, family members, and students are invited to the district to honor those who serve or have served our country.  Students are involved in the planning and presentation of the program by reading poetry, singing patriotic songs, taking veteran photographs, and preparing and serving desserts.

Cushing ISD strives to instill in our students the important roll these individuals play in the freedoms with enjoy and understand the sacrifices made. Many of these men and women were born and raised right here in Cushing, Texas. Many of them are graduates of Cushing ISD, or have family members that attend school here now that makes them part of our school family.

Veterans Day originated as Armistice Day on November 11, 1919 the first anniversary of the end of World War I. Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance, and November 11th became a national holiday beginning in 1938. On June 1, 1954, Armistice Day officially became Veterans Day. Veterans Day pays tribute to all American Veterans, living or dead, who served their country honorably during war or peacetime.
