If you want a rugged, protected 7-pin trailer power interface that safeguards your vehicle's wiring against the elements, choose CURT 58150; if you need a compliant, submersible LED license plate light designed to handle harsh weather and marine conditions, choose ONLINE LED STORE TRUE MODS Gray.
• CURT 58150: Its biggest strength is the spring-loaded dust cover and concealed terminals that keep moisture out of your electrical connections; its trade-off is that it is strictly a connector point, not a lighting solution. This pick is for owners towing RVs or heavy trailers who prioritize long-term electrical reliability over aesthetics.
• ONLINE LED STORE TRUE MODS Gray: Its biggest strength is the DOT FMVSS 108 certification and IPX7 waterproof rating that ensures legal compliance and submersibility; its trade-off is that it is limited to license plate illumination and does not provide auxiliary power or brake signal connections. This pick is for boaters, truckers, and motorcycle riders who need a bright, legally safe tag light that can survive being dunked in water.
The CURT 58150 is built for the driver who views their trailer connection as a critical safety component rather than just an accessory. The defining feature here is the engineering around protection. That spring-loaded dust cover isn't a gimmick; it physically shields the blade contacts from dirt, rain, and road grime when you aren't plugged in. When you connect your trailer, you are plugging into a system where the splice-in wire terminals are concealed within the housing. This design choice directly addresses the most common failure point in trailer wiring: corrosion. By keeping the connection points dry, you ensure consistent power delivery for miles of travel, whether you are hauling a travel trailer across the country or just heading to the local fairgrounds.
This unit is constructed from durable black plastic specifically chosen because it will never rust or corrode. In the world of towing, metal components often degrade quickly under the weight of salt spray and road chemicals. The CURT 58150 avoids this entirely by using a non-corrosive housing that maintains its structural integrity over time. It is a versatile design that works as a replacement for existing 7-way RV blade connectors and is interchangeable with virtually any standard vehicle-side setup. You get full functionality for taillights, brake lights, reverse lights, turn signals, trailer brakes, and auxiliary power all in one compact package.
You should buy this if you are towing anything that requires a robust 7-pin connection and you live in an area with significant rain, snow, or road salt. It is also ideal if you frequently disconnect and reconnect your trailer, as the dust cover offers immediate protection every time the plug is removed. However, if you are looking for a light source, a decorative upgrade, or something that mounts directly to a fender without wiring into your vehicle harness, this product is not for you. It is purely an interface, a bridge between your car and your load.

The ONLINE LED STORE TRUE MODS Gray serves a very different purpose but solves a specific problem with equal seriousness: visibility and legality. This is a license plate light kit designed to meet strict federal safety standards. The standout specification here is the DOT FMVSS 108 Certification. This isn't just marketing fluff; it means the light output, distribution, and durability have been engineered to meet the exact requirements set forth for highway safety. If you are riding a motorcycle, driving a boat, or hauling a trailer, ensuring your rear tag is visible to other drivers is not optional—it is the law. This light ensures you conform to those regulations without needing to modify your vehicle's bodywork significantly.
Durability is another pillar of this product. It carries an IPX7 waterproof certification, which implies it can withstand immersion in water up to one meter for thirty minutes. This level of protection makes it suitable for marine applications where splashing waves are constant, or for trucking in heavy downpours where puddles are deep. The construction features a stainless steel bracket that provides a solid mount, and the kit includes all necessary accessories for a hassle-free installation. Unlike traditional incandescent bulbs that burn out or fade, the LED technology here offers a consistent glow that enhances your visibility day and night. The gray finish on the housing is practical, blending well with various vehicle colors while maintaining a professional look.
This product is the right choice if you need a reliable tag light that won't fail when you hit a deep puddle or get caught in a storm. It is particularly relevant for motorcycle enthusiasts who often ride through varied weather conditions and need a light that stays secure and functional. The universal fitment means it can be adapted to boats, cars, trucks, and motorcycles alike. However, if you require a light that illuminates a large area for off-roading or needs to be integrated into a complex trailer brake controller system, this unit is too specialized. It is focused entirely on keeping your license plate lit and legal, nothing more and nothing less.

But for a motorcycle owner looking to replace a dying or illegal license plate light, I would buy the ONLINE LED STORE TRUE MODS Gray without hesitation. Its combination of DOT certification and true submersibility offers peace of mind that a simple bulb replacement cannot match. It is the safer, more compliant option for keeping your bike visible on the road in any condition.
The CURT 58150 is a universal trailer connector that can be spliced into any vehicle's wiring, including motorcycles, provided you have a trailer to tow. The ONLINE LED STORE TRUE MODS Gray is explicitly listed as suitable for motorcycles, offering a universal fit for license plates.
