If you want a robust, heavy-duty steel tool designed specifically for leveraging weight distribution brackets in tight trailer hitch spaces, choose CURT 17112; if you need a versatile, multi-size set of lightweight plastic funnels for pouring fluids in cars, motorcycles, or the kitchen, choose DEDC Oil Funnels. These two products sit at opposite ends of the automotive accessories spectrum, serving completely different mechanical needs that often get confused by shoppers looking for "tools." One is a precision lever for a specific towing component, while the other is a general-purpose fluid transfer kit. Understanding this fundamental difference is the only way to avoid buying the wrong item for your garage.
• CURT 17112: Strength lies in its heavy-gauge steel construction and specific design for weight distribution leverage; trade-off is it is a single-use, specialized tool not meant for general fluid handling.
• DEDC Oil Funnels: Strength is the variety of four sizes (2-inch to 5-inch) for multiple fluid types like oil, gas, and transmission fluid; trade-off is the lightweight plastic construction which lacks the structural rigidity for high-leverage tasks.
• Who should buy the CURT: Towing enthusiasts who own a CURT weight distribution system and need a dedicated handle to install or adjust hookup brackets without damaging components.
• Who should buy the DEDC: Homeowners, DIY mechanics, or riders who need a compact set of funnels for routine maintenance, refilling fluids, or even kitchen use where portability matters more than brute strength.
The CURT 17112 Weight Distribution Hitch Lift Handle is not a generic tool; it is an engineered accessory built for a singular, high-stress purpose. This isn't just about durability; it is about the ability to withstand the physical torque required when manipulating weight distribution hookup brackets. When you are trying to lift a heavy bracket into place under a trailer tongue, especially in cramped conditions where you cannot get good leverage with your hands alone, this handle provides the necessary mechanical advantage. It allows for easy leveraging, which is critical when you are dealing with metal components that might otherwise resist movement or slip.
This product is designed specifically for compatibility with the CURT weight distribution replacement hookup bracket #17008. If you do not have that specific bracket or a similar setup, this handle offers little value. That weight is intentional. Unlike a flimsy piece of plastic that might snap under pressure, this solid steel bar is substantial enough to transfer force effectively without bending. The color is a carbide black powder coat, which suggests a focus on longevity and resistance to the elements, ensuring it won't rust away after a few seasons of exposure to road salt or moisture.
You should buy this if you are actively installing or adjusting a weight distribution system and find yourself struggling with the manual effort required to hook up the brackets. It is also essential if you work in environments where tools need to survive harsh weather without degrading. However, you should skip this product entirely if you are looking for a general-purpose tool for your toolbox. It has no function as a funnel, a wrench, or a cleaning aid. It is a specialized piece of hardware for a very specific mechanical operation. If your towing setup does not utilize a weight distribution hitch or requires a different type of bracket, this item will simply collect dust in your shed.

In stark contrast to the industrial feel of the CURT handle, the DEDC Oil Funnels represent a solution for everyday fluid management. This is a set of four plastic funnels made from high-quality PP material, which the manufacturer notes is healthy and environmentally friendly. The defining feature here is the range of sizes included in the package: 2-inch, 3-inch, 4-inch, and 5-inch openings. This variety allows the user to tackle a wide array of containers and pour spouts. Whether you are topping off engine oil in a car, transferring gasoline into a lawn mower tank, or even pouring liquids in a kitchen setting, having a funnel that fits the opening perfectly prevents spills and messes.
The design prioritizes convenience and storage. Each funnel features a perforated handle, making them easy to hang up when not in use. The red color makes them highly visible, so you don't lose them among other tools. While they are marketed heavily for automotive use—handling transmission oil, engine oil, and other fluids—their small size and plastic construction make them equally suitable for motorcycle maintenance or household chores. They are essentially a "set it and forget it" purchase for anyone who owns a vehicle and performs basic maintenance.
You should buy this set if you frequently change fluids in cars, trucks, or motorcycles and want to ensure you have the right size funnel for every job. It is also ideal for people who live in garages where space is at a premium and need items that can be hung up neatly. However, there is a clear limitation: these are plastic tools. They are not designed to withstand the kind of physical stress or high-leverage forces that the CURT handle endures. You would never use these to pry open a stuck part or lift a heavy bracket. If you need a tool for heavy-duty mechanical leverage, this plastic set will fail immediately. But for the simple, clean transfer of liquids, they offer excellent utility and versatility that a single heavy steel handle simply cannot match.
• Best for high-leverage mechanical tasks → CURT 17112: Only the steel construction can provide the necessary force to manipulate heavy weight distribution brackets without breaking.
• Best for multi-surface fluid transfer → DEDC Oil Funnels: The four distinct sizes allow for precise pouring into various container necks, from tiny motorcycle tanks to large car oil fillers.
• Best for outdoor durability → CURT 17112: The corrosion-resistant powder coat finish is built to withstand years of exposure to road grime and weather, unlike standard plastic.
• Best for storage and portability → DEDC Oil Funnels: Weighing less than a quarter of a pound and featuring hanging holes, this set is trivial to carry in a pocket or glove compartment.
• Best for specific towing setups → CURT 17112: It is engineered exclusively for the CURT #17008 bracket system, offering a perfect fit that generic tools cannot replicate.
• Best for general home and garage utility → DEDC Oil Funnels: Suitable for cars, motorcycles, and even kitchen use, offering a broader range of applications than a single-function towing tool.
• Best for long-term wear in rough conditions → CURT 17112: The 1.5-pound steel build resists impact and deformation far better than thin-walled plastic.
• Best for budget-conscious variety seekers → DEDC Oil Funnels: You get four separate tools in one package, covering almost all common funnel needs for a fraction of the cost of specialized equipment.
I recommend the CURT 17112 if your primary goal is solving a specific problem in a tight space during a trailer hitch installation. The sheer engineering behind that steel handle and its specific compatibility with weight distribution brackets make it the superior choice for that exact scenario. I would buy this because the risk of damaging a bracket or failing to secure a hitch due to poor leverage is too high to risk with a generic tool. However, if you are looking for a general addition to your maintenance kit, the DEDC Oil Funnels are the logical pick. I prefer the DEDC set for daily life because the variety of sizes ensures I never spill a drop of oil again, and their compact nature fits perfectly in my tight garage workspace. Ultimately, the choice depends entirely on whether you are fixing a trailer or changing an oil filter.
Using it on other brands may result in a poor fit or ineffective leverage.
The product description highlights PP material which is generally durable, but it is primarily marketed for automotive fluids like oil and gas. Extreme heat could potentially warp the plastic, so caution is advised compared to metal alternatives.
According to the product details provided, the set is listed as "Red." There is no mention of alternative color options in the specifications, so buyers should expect the standard red plastic finish.
