CUPS'2023
The 2nd Computer Science University of Tunis El Manar PhD Symposium
31 May, 1-2 June 2023 Tunis, Tunisia
Faculty of Sciences of Tunis (FST)
PHD SYMPOSIUM CALL
The Computer Science PhD Symposium of the UTM is a forum for PhD students working in Computer Sciences and related areas of research to present their work, meet with peers and experienced researchers, obtain feedback, and earn credits needed towards their doctoral academic program. It aims at helping future researchers build up the skills and confidence required to conduct and promote their research, as well as giving them the opportunity to attend one of the most important research conferences and tutorials in computer science. Based on how well the first symposium went in 2017 at the National School of Engineers (ENIT), the second symposium, CUPS'2023, will be held at the Faculty of Sciences of Tunis from May 31 to June 2, 2023.
INVOLVED INSTITUTIONS AND RESEARCH LABORATORIES
Faculty of Sciences of Tunis
LIPSIC: Computer Science, Parallelism and Intelligent Communicating Systems Laboratory (Director : Samir Ben Ahmed)
LIPAH: Algorithmic and Heuristic Programming Laboratory (Director : Hella Kaffel Ben Ayed)
High Institute of Computer Science
LIMTIC: Research Laboratory in Computer Science, Modeling and Processing of Information and Knowledge (Director: Ezzeddine Zagrouba)
National School of Engineers of Tunis
SITI: Signal, Images and Information Technologies Laboratory (Director: Zied Laachiri)
RISC: Robotics, Computer Science and Complex Systems Laboratory (Director: Safia Belghith)
Sys’Com: Communications Systems Laboratory (Director: Taoufik Aguili)
THE GOALS
The UTM PhD Symposium in Computer Sciences will give students the opportunity to:
Learn by constructive criticism: Established researchers and PhD student advisors will provide constructive feedback to the submitted papers and posters by means of an open and non- adversarial review process.
Learn about research: The CUPS’2023 Symposium will include four tutorials, each one addressing an actual research topic: Blockchain, Massive Data Mining & Big data, Artificial Intelligence and IoT. This is an opportunity for the PhD students to enhance and deepen their skills while taking advantage of this space either to find suitable answers to the questions arising through their research or to exchange with the different eminent speakers .
Learn by presenting: Accepted contributions will be presented in the PhD Symposium. Students’ posters will be also presented and evaluated.
The PhD Symposium agenda will include:
Conference for PhD students: the students (2nd year and later) will have the opportunity to present their research work while meeting peers and experienced researchers. The first year PhD students will be able also to present an overview on their research topic and eventually some preliminary results of their research .
Scientific Specialized Training: Sessions of Tutorials given by specialists in Computer sciences research areas which are: Block-Chain, Massive Data Mining & Big data, Artificial Intelligence and IoT.
Research Valorization & Professional Project: Meeting the actors of the socio-economic environment and organizing workshops and conferences on innovation project management and the professional integration of young doctors.
This symposium provides students some PhD credits:
PhD students who attend all tutorials will receive 5 points for the UE Formation Scientifique Spécialisée (FSS) among the credits requested in the PhD cursus.
PhD students having an accepted paper which they would have presented at the symposium will receive 4 points in the publication credits category.
PhD students having attended all the sessions of a single track will receive 2 points in the UE Méthode et Communication en Recherche (MCR)
ELIGIBILITY
Submissions are open for PhD students in the doctoral schools of the University of Tunis El Manar who are working in the field of computer sciences and related areas. But this doesn’t exclude allowing PhD students in other doctoral schools to submit their work.
Depending on how far along the PhD student is, the submissions will be looked at in one of two categories:
Starting PhD students (first year): for students who may have identified the main research problem they want to address, the relevant literature, and are building their research methodology, but might not have yet obtained significant results, or only preliminary ones. The students in this category are invited to submit a poster describing their PhD research.
Advanced PhD students (2nd year and later): For students who have already defined their approach (even if incompletely) and obtained significant results (e.g., that might already have been published). The students in this category are invited to submit a five pages paper describing their PhD research.
SUBMISSION INFORMATION
PhD students who are working in the computer science fields and related research fields are invited to submit before 30th of April 2023 May 8, 2023:
A five A4 pages paper in the PDF format following the IEEE template (Download IEEE Templates from here https://www.ieee.org/conferences_events/conferences/publishing/templates.html ).
The submission the papers, is done through the following MS CMT link: https://cmt3.research.microsoft.com/CUPS2023
