OFFICE OF ACADEMIC AFFAIRS
Dear International Student,
As a university that welcomes and supports students from everywhere in the world, CUNY recognizes the uncertainty that you may be feeling. I’m writing to assure you that we are steadfast in supporting all members of our community.
CUNY is aware that some of our international students have had their F1 visas terminated over the last few days. Our campuses’ international student advisors, also known as Designated School Officials (DSOs), have directly contacted these students to offer guidance and support.
University leadership and the college offices of International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) are actively monitoring this evolving situation. If additional F1 international students are impacted or the terminations expand to include other foreign nationals, campus DSOs will reach out to them immediately. If you have not been contacted by your campus DSO, this means that the University and the campuses are currently unaware of any changes to your international student visa status.
If you have questions related to your immigration status, we strongly recommend that you reach out to your DSO. They will review your case with you, and discuss the University’s immigration resources, academic options and wellness supports. Please rest assured that safeguarding the privacy of student and personnel records is a priority for the University.
We urge you to visit this page to keep up with evolving resources and information and this page for up-to-date information on changes to U.S. immigration law. As we always do in challenging times, CUNY will stand together as a community and do everything within our power to support each other.
Sincerely,
Alicia M. Alvero, Ph.D.
Interim Executive Vice Chancellor
and University Provost
