Objectives
Determine the impact of advertising and R&D expenses on the relation between ESG and financial performance
Determine whether R&D (advertising) spending of greenwashers (brownwashers) affects ESG-financial performance relationship
Detect any recency bias (whether individuals focalize more on recent events) in the relation between ESG and financial performance
Phases
Gather a large dataset combining both quantative and qualitative data (ESG scores, various accounts in financial statements, corporate data, macroeconomic data, etc.)
Process the data (filters, panels and derived data)
Determine companies doing greenwashing and brownwashing by novel methods
Determine control variables through machine learning and run multiple moderated regressions and panel regressions
