Facultade de Filoloxía e Tradución
Organised by the Department of English, French and German at the University of Vigo, this seminar is directed at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students and seeks to create a forum for reflection, debate and exchange of ideas regarding the study of popular culture in English.
We invite submissions broadly approaching the field of cultural studies in English. Therefore, papers may explore a wide range of cultural products and genres (e.g. literature, film and television, print media, music, advertising, etc.), discuss theoretical and/or methodological issues, or focus on specific aspects and/or themes present in these products. We are particularly interested in proposals dealing with:
The analysis of cultural forms and activities
Aspects of cultural production, consumption, regulation and distribution
Constructions of the self and identification processes in popular culture
Hybridisation
Popular culture and its relations with “high” and mass culture
The intercultural and the translation of cultures
