Got an old instrument gathering dust in the closet? Put it to good use in the Cullman Community Band. Please review the Q&A below for information.
Q: What is the Cullman Community Band?
A: The Cullman Community Band is a volunteer, non-profit concert band made up of adult musicians from Cullman and surrounding communities. We come together to make music, improve our skills, and share live performances with the community in a fun, supportive environment.
Q: What is the instrumentation of the band?
A: The CCB is a traditional concert band, made up of woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments.
Q: Who can join the band?
A: Any adult musician with prior band experience is welcome! You don’t need to be a professional—many of our members are hobbyists, retirees, educators, or people who are rediscovering music after a break. Advanced high school musicians may join with a recommendation from their band director.
Q: Do I need to audition?
A: No audition is required
Q: Is there a cost to join?
A: No
Q: Do I need my own instrument?
A: Yes, except for percussion, members are generally expected to provide their own instrument.
Q: When are rehearsals?
A: The band rehearses on Monday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30. We generally follow the school calendar. The Fall season runs from September to mid-December, and the Winter/Spring Season from mid-January to May.
Q: Are there concerts or performances?
A: Yes! We typically present two formal concerts each year, in addition to seasonal and community events, such as Cullman’s Oktoberfest, Christkindlmarkt, and Strawberry Festival.
Q: What kind of music does the band play?
A: Our repertoire includes traditional concert band literature, marches, patriotic music, light classics, pops, and occasional contemporary pieces, something for everyone.
Q: What’s the atmosphere like?
A: Friendly, relaxed, and encouraging. We take the music seriously, but we also believe it should be fun. Camaraderie is a big part of who we are.
Q: How do I get more information or join?
A: Contact the Cullman Community Band through our website (see below), social media, or a current member. We’re happy to answer questions and invite you to sit in on a rehearsal.
