Competition vs. Developmental Team?
It normally takes about at least 6 months to a year, sometimes longer, for anyone to acquire skills, learn to play safely for yourself and others, and understand enough of basics to join the competition / travel team. Most kids on the competition team have been playing ultimate for over 2-3+ years.
To include and encourage everyone, irrespective of the age- or skill-level, we offer a developmental program that includes skills development, fundamentals, and actual games. Even when kids (or adults) come from other sports, it still takes a while to learn the fundamentals and play safely. When kids are ready to play at a higher level, they can join the competition team, which is the goal of the developmental program.
Philosophy: it is important to learn the basic skills right – foundations. We’ll teach from the beginning: safety, catching, throwing (back-hand, forehand, hucks, hammers, scoobers, V-stack, H-stack, dumps, strategies, defense, marks, offense, Zone-O, Zone-D, etc.).
Good spirit, sportsmanship, and friendships are important.
Safe Sport & Background Checks: All coaches are parents, and completed safe sport training and background checks with local youth sports clubs (FPYC, BAC, others). The Head Coach is also FCPS Level-3 Volunteer.
