We are pack 110 out of First Presbyterian. We are a co-ed pack with scouts ranging from 5K-5th grade.
(New Parent Presentation available here!)
Meetings: Currently, we meet 3x a month at 5:45-7:00 on Tuesdays. We will meet 2x a month as individual groups (dens) and then a 3rd time as a whole pack. Our 3rd meeting is our pack meeting where we do things such as Christmas parties, special visitor meetings (EMT, fire dept, etc) so we still have our normal den meetings to work on den specific activities.
What we do: The way Scouts works is the kids do different activities which earns them belt loops and patches. They have specific required adventures they have to do to make rank at the end of the school year. Then there are a number of electives that we as a pack or you as a family can work towards. Before they can earn their first rank, they earn a rank called “bobcat” which introduces them to the idea of what scouts is. It teaches them about the scout law, scout oath, motto, etc. Very simple to achieve. Some weeks scouts may have stuff to work on at home, but for the most part we try to get it all done in meetings and at the various activities to make it easier on families.
Uniforms: Lions wear the Lion t-shirt and optional neckerchief.
Tigers, Wolves, and Bears wear the blue Class A uniform with den specific neckerchief.
Webelos wear the tan Class A uniform that the older boy scouts wear as well.
As a pack, we are pretty laid back about uniforms, but the troop (6th grade +) requires their scouts to wear Class As regularly so we do start requiring/encouraging our Webelos to wear them more often than they had to when they were in the lower groups.
Dens:
Lions- this is the kindergarten den. It starts introducing the scouts to scouting in general, healthy habits and basic outdoor fun.
Tiger – this is the first-grade den. It starts introducing them to outdoor skills, healthy habits and nature. They also do a lot craft activities and games.
Wolves – this is the second-grade den. It starts introducing them to outdoor skills, first aid, healthy habits, and citizenship.
Bears – this is the third-grade den. This age group goes more in depth with outdoor skills, first aid and duty to our country.
Webelos/AoLs – this is the fourth and fifth grade groups. This age group starts working on scout skills for safety, first aid and outdoor activities. This group does a lot of preparing to join the older scout group and becoming more independent with outdoor activities.
In general, we do a lot of the traditional scout activities which include hiking, camping, pinewood derby, blue and gold banquet and a pack service project. We also will have Halloween and Christmas parties. We also have an end of the year celebration to celebrate everyone making their rank during the year.
Fees: We recharter (which is Boy scout lingo for re-register) in every year which is now done individually vs. as a pack. So if you join in August, you will re-register every August. The yearly cost of scouting for a Youth is $85 for National fees + $14 Georgia Carolina Council fee. The yearly cost of scouting for a leader is $65 for National fees + $14 Georgia Carolina Council fee (adults don't pay the $25 joining fee). These fees include BSA insurance. Our pack also collects $50 for pack dues which covers the cost of belt loops and materials throughout the year.
