A comprehensive guide for families considering joining Cub Scouts with Pack 842 in San Ramon.
Cub Scouts is a hands-on, family‑centered youth program for grades K-5 that builds character, confidence, outdoor skills, teamwork, and leadership. Scouts learn by doing (hiking, camping, STEM projects, service, games, and community engagement) all in a supportive environment led by trained volunteers.
Pack 842 is part of the Golden Gate Area Council and meets in the Montevideo neighborhood of San Ramon.
Any child entering Kindergarten through 5th grade can join. Cub Scouts is open to all genders, and Pack 842 welcomes families from any school in the area.
Scouts are grouped by grade level:
Lion - Kindergarten
Tiger - 1st Grade
Wolf - 2nd Grade
Bear - 3rd Grade
Webelos - 4th Grade
Arrow of Light (AOL) - 5th Grade
Each Den meets separately for age‑appropriate adventures, while the entire Pack meets monthly for larger events.
Most families find Cub Scouts easy to fit into busy schedules:
Den Meetings: 2nd Thursday each month August - May, 6:30-8 PM at the Montevideo MPR
Pack Meetings: 3rd & 4th Thursdays each month August - May, 6:30-8 PM at the Montevideo MPR
Pack Outings: Monthly hikes, service projects, special events, and biannual camping trips
Optional Council Camps: New Family Connection Camp, Family Vacation Camps, Mom & Scout Camp, Day Camp, Tiger Cub Safari, Wolf/Bear Camp, Webelos/AOL Adventure Camp, Webeloree, Camporee, and AOLoree
Optional Regional Events: Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk Overnights, Scout-O-Ramas, Scout Days at professional sporting events.

Pack 842 offers one of the most active Cub Scout programs in the region. Here’s a snapshot of our annual rhythm:
Monthly hikes (Angel Island, Little Yosemite, Sycamore Grove, Huckleberry, Morgan Territory, Flag Hill, and more)
Outdoor outings like swimming, bike rides, fishing, and mini golf are planned annually based on family input.

Each month focuses on a different area of growth (Character/Leadership, Outdoor Skills, Personal Fitness, Citizenship, Personal Safety, and more) with Den Meeting Nights, Pack Events, and Mixed‑Den Challenges.
For the 2026-2027 year:
Pack 842 Dues: $120 per scout

National Registration: $151 per scout

Returning scouts renew annually on their original registration anniversary
Pack dues cover awards, patches, event supplies, Pack‑wide activities, and leadership registration.
