Parents often have questions about the programming, content, and time requirements of the Participating. There may also be questions about child safety based on BSA History. Here are some answers to the most common questions.
Cub scouting is different from BSA (Boy) Scouting in that Cub scouting is a family activity. At pack 1604 Parents/guardians are required to be at all events minimizing your child's vulnerability. However we will find a way to accommodate those whose circumstances don't make that practical, (single parents with multiple children, parents who work night shift etc.)
Regardless, Cub Scout Pack 1604 and the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) places the greatest importance on creating the most secure environment possible for our youth members. To maintain such an environment, the BSA developed numerous procedural and leadership selection policies and provides parents and leaders with resources for the Cub Scout program. All parent leaders submit background checks, complete annual training, and obey guidelines to protect the safety of our youth. The Cub Scouting program is designed for boys and girls in Kindergarten through Grade 5. A boy or girl may join Cub Scouts at any time during any of these grade levels. It is recommended to start at the beginning of the school year to give the scout a the best opportunity to earn their rank advancement. The scout's grade determines which den the child enters. The dens are as follows.
Kindergarten – Lion Den
Grade 1 – Tiger Den
Grade 2 – Wolf Den
Grade 3 – Bear Den
Grade 4 – Webelos Den
Grade 5 – Arrow of Light Den
Volunteering is essential to a successful Cub Scout program. While parent involvement at all levels is key, the Pack is always looking for persons to help run the program and serve in Pack or den leadership and committee roles. By doing so, parents can help to provide the best possible Cub Scouting program for our children. If you are interested in serving the children of our pack in any way please contact us at cubscoutpack1604@gmail.com
Yes! Siblings are welcome at pack meetings and campouts. They may not be able to participate in all activities like the derby races but are welcome to watch.
Cub Scout Pack 1604 runs a school year program, with meetings and events several times per month. Although scouts are not required to be at every event, they are encouraged to try to attend meetings and events on a regular basis. As parents are an important line of defense against abuse for their children, at least one parent or adult is expected to accompany his or her scouts at most events. Monthly meetings and events include:
Pack Meetings – A 1-2 hour meeting on the first Wednesday of every month, September through June.
Den Meetings – One meeting per month, September through May. Dens are encouraged to meet on Wednesdays to minimize the scouting footprint in our families schedules.
Local Events – We usually attend 2-3 local events on Saturday's. The times vary by event, but most range anywhere from one to four hours.
Fall, Winter and Spring Campouts – Campouts are held at local scout Campgrounds. They generally go from Friday evening through Sunday morning.
