We knew we had signed up for an Adventure, after all it was "Adventure Camp", but it was so much more than any of us could have anticipated! It was a bonding experience, it was a weekend of joy & laughter, and making real life memories!
Pack 1873 convened at Camp Bovay in Navasota, Texas on the evening of Friday April 11, 2025. Due to quality Pack planning and team work, we quickly set up our tents and snacked on a Cracker Barrel of cheese puffs, Crunch & Munch, and Pretzels while we waited for the movie. The camp organizers showed us Whal-E, what an inspiring movie, under the stars (we also may have eaten some more - including the provided popcorn). We finally rolled into camp around 9:30 and everyone was truly ready for some sleep. It was a colder night than some of us expected, but the cool front led to a beautiful, low humidity, morning.
Saturday was jam packed
7:30 Grab & Go breakfast
8:30 Flag Ceremony - Where we learned that we needed to follow the Scout oath and law, and being clean (as in a clean campsite) could win an award.
Three morning rotations: Conservation Project - Bird feeders & Seed Bombs, Pollution and Extinction
12 until 2 was lunch (hot dogs YUMMY!) and free time (can you say fishing and Fort Bluebell?)
Four afternoon rotations: Nature Hike, Archery, BB guns (unlimited ammo!!!), and The 3 Rs - plus composting and donating
After some down time at camp they fed us mac & cheese with chicken tenders followed by a super fun campfire where we did a skit called the "Invisible Bench" and WON OUR FIRST AWARD!!! After returning to camp, we had the long awaited S'mores that we had been promised.
Needless to say, we didn't rise nearly as early on Sunday (the humidity probably didn't help), but we were still cheerful once awake. The Scouts played "old men" using their sticks as canes. After eating and packing up - we prayed and did a Rose & Thorn ceremony. Before leaving, the Scouts took one last trip to Fort and lake.
The Scouts were so polite and asking permission for seconds.
Waiting to do charades. Which they totally rocked!
The "old men" took the walk to collect their breakfast.
Capturing all the moments.
We won for Cleanest Camp site, this isn't an easy award to win. A Scout is "clean" and many packs take competition seriously!
Cub Scouts builds strong families.
Friends!
We may be in Texas.
