Pack 888 is a co-ed, family-friendly Cub Scout Pack that meets on Tuesday nights from 7-8pm at Forest Hill UMC in Concord (265 Union St N, Concord, NC 28025). All children from kindergarten through 5th grade are welcome to join. The Pack year runs from August through early June (essentially the school year) and each Tuesday is either a weekly meeting - where cub scouts work on rank requirements - or a monthly pack meeting - where awards & recognitions are presented. Additionally, we go camping altogether as a pack about 2-3 times a year - it's a lot of fun!
Dues are made up of 3 buckets: annual fees to the national and state cub scout councils , badges and belt loops given as awards/achievements throughout the year, and other fixed pack costs. We also strongly encourage all scouts to have a class A uniform for award ceremonies and special events (see FAQs below for more inform). Although these dues can change year-to-year, in recent years the cost breakdown was approximately as follows:
National/Council Fees = $160
Awards/Advancements = $25
Fixed costs = $20

Cub Scouts learn many life skills such as cooking and nutrition, health and fitness, first aid, woodworking, home maintenance, and all types of jobs and careers.
For kids that like science Cub Scouts features tons of fun activities such as Pinewood Derby, Raingutter Regatta, trips to museums or farms, and hands on science experiments. We encourage curiousity!
A Scout is helpful, friendly and kind. We do service projects throughout the year such as Earth Day clean ups, Scouting for Food and wreath laying ceremonies.
Payments can be made in cash, check, or via PayPal. All cash or check payments should be given directly to our treasurer prior to the event. If you would like to pay through PayPal, you may scan the QR code below.
Annual dues are roughly $210. This covers registration & insurance, patches, belt loops (earned for completing adventures) and supplies. But don't let cost stop you from joining - we have scholarships available, flexible payment options and annual fundraisers that earn your scout money that can be used to pay their annual dues.
Through popcorn sales during our fall fundraiser, all scouts will have any opportunity to earn a 30-40% commission on sales they make. In the spring, our camp card fundraiser could earn students $5 for every card they sell. This commission can be used to pay for scout dues, council events, or summer camps.
You can start Cub Scouts at any time as long as you are in K-5th grade. Whatever age your child joins they will be sorted into a "Den" based on the grade they are in in school. These dens will meet each week to work toward earning achievements together:
Kindergarten = Lions
1st Grade = Tigers
2nd grade = Wolves
3rd grade = Bears
4th grade = Webelos
5th grade = AOL (Arrow of Light)
Pack 888 meets once a week on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. at Forest Hill UMC in Concord during the school year. Meetings usually start in August or September and run through late May or early June. Pack meetings - where everyone gets together - are once a month. Den meetings - smaller groups by grade - meet on the other weeks.
Campouts and other group activities are on weekends and we even have activities in the summer.
Yes! In fact, parents or guardians need to accompany their children to Lion and Tiger meetings. Parents are also an important part of Scouts as we can't have a Pack without you! We need parents to be den leaders, committee members and help out with activities. Cub Scouts really is a family activity, the more the parents are involved with Scouts the more fun your kids will have.
Pack activities can include campouts, fishing, hikes, trips to museums, bicycling trips, swimming, Pinewood Derby, "lock-in" sleepovers with movies and games and much more. Den activities include sports and activities, games, arts and crafts, cooking, first aid, STEM activities, using tools and building projects, learning about different careers, animals, and more.
Yes, Scouts will need to purchase a Cub Scout shirt, neckerchief and belt as well as a guidebook. We do have a uniform closet with second-hand items if needed. All Scouts should wear their "Class A" uniform during pack meetings, fundraisers and other special events. This uniform consists of the blue button Cub Scout shirt, their den neckerchief, a belt, and a guidebook. Scouts may wear pants, a skort or shorts with their shirt - these are often navy, but can be any color.
We also encourage all scouts to purchase a pack t-shirt ($12) to use as their "Class B" uniform. We use class B for pack meetings, more casual events, and staying cozy on camping trips!
