In Memoriam: Professor Dr. Akira Komiyama
We mourn the passing of Professor Dr. Akira Komiyama, a pioneering scholar in mangrove ecology whose work greatly advanced our understanding of mangrove ecosystems, particularly in Thailand.
Professor Komiyama made lasting contributions to mangrove science through his research on biomass, forest structure, and ecosystem processes. His collaborations in Thailand helped strengthen local research capacity and inspired many students and scientists in the region.
He will be remembered not only for his scientific achievements but also for his generosity as a mentor and collaborator. His legacy continues through the people he trained and the knowledge he shared.
— Plant Ecology Research Unit, CU (2026)
We study the interactions between plants and their environment to understand the processes and mechanisms that plants respond to environmental changes. Our group mainly focuses on the production ecology and carbon dynamics of tropical forest ecosystems (mangrove forest and rainforest).
