DESCRIPTION:
As part of a special program from the National American Society of Microbiology, New Hampshire INBRE, and the regional CT Valley ASM Branch, we are sponsoring one special INBRE-CTV Summer Research Intern for 2026. This student will be selected by the CT Valley ASM executive committee to participate in the iSURF program at Geisel School of Medicine, Dartmouth College.
The program includes up to $5,000 in salary stipend, meal plan, free housing, and some travel expenses.

Please note; students are not eligible for iSURF-Nursing and are applying for the Bench research mentors in the iSURF program from Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College. Faculty mentors will be matched from this list; https://geiselmed.dartmouth.edu/microbio/faculty/
· Applicant must be currently enrolled and non-graduating (2nd to 4th year) 2- or 4-year college student, who has completed at least one academic year
· Majoring in a degree program related to microbiology (e.g. Biology, Health Science, Ecology, Biomedical Science or similar).
· Students must be either residents of, or currently enrolled in a college or university within, the Connecticut Valley ASM Region.
· The student’s current college or university must NOT be a research-intensive “R1” university. Preference will be given to students with limited access or experience in research laboratories or programs.

R1 University students ineligible for this position - enrolled at: University of Connecticut or UConn-Health, Yale University, Dartmouth College, University of Massachusetts - Amherst, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Brown University, University of Rhode Island. All other colleges and universities are eligible.

Request TWO letters of recommendation to be sent before the due date. Letters from each referee should be directly emailed by the letter writer, separately from the student’s application, to ctvalleyASM@gmail.com with the subject line “<APPLICANT NAME> INBRE Recommendation”. Recommenders should discuss the applicant’s future career and research goals, current research or laboratory experience, if any, and the student’s interest, aptitude and preparation for a clinical/academic microbiology research career. Referees may provide the letter in the body of an email message or as an attached .pdf. The letter may be for general summer research programs or tailored to this program.
