Q: Who is eligible to join CMSA?
A: Membership in CMSA is open to men who are Masons (in good standing) and have an interest in Scouting. Being a registered scout leader or being a former scout is not a requirement to join, however many of our members have some type of connection to scouting. CMSA encourages active participation in scouting or support of scouting-related activities. Members should subscribe to the principles shared by both Freemasonry and Scouting — namely the values of brotherhood, service, morality, and commitment to supporting youth development.
Q: How do I become a member of the Connecticut Masonic Scouters Association (CMSA)?
A: To join CMSA, you simply need to submit a completed membership application along with the membership fee. Our Membership Information page contains links to both online and paper membership forms.
Q: What membership types are available, and what are the fees?
A: CMSA Offers both an Annual Membership for $10 and a Lifetime Membership for $100. Annual Memberships are offered by the calendar year and expire on December 31. We do not pro-rate the Annual membership fee if paid mid-year.
Q: Do I need to belong to a Connecticut Masonic lodge to join?
A: No. Members are required to be masons, but CMSA has members that live in New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and other states.
Q: How do I become a Mason?
A: To become a Mason in Connecticut, you will need to join a local lodge. A good resource to find a lodge is the Grand Lodge of Connecticut via their “Lodge Locator” on the state Masonic website. To be eligible, a candidate must: be a man at least 18 years of age, of good moral character, believe in a “Supreme Being,” and come of his own free will and accord. If you meet those requirements and express interest, a local lodge will often invite you to meet Brothers, learn more, and if acceptable — receive a petition to join, followed by investigation, vote, and then initiation.
Q: How can I register my child as a scout or volunteer as a scout leader?
A: To find a local unit for you or your child, visit BeAScout.org.
Q: Can a child become involved in both DeMolay as well as Scouting?
A: Absolutely!!! Both Scouting and DeMolay share many of the same values and principles. Click Here if you are interested in learning more about DeMolay.
Q: What is the mission of CMSA?
A: The Connecticut Masonic Scouters Association (CMSA) is a group of Connecticut Masons and Scouters coming together in the bonds of Freemasonry and Scouting to promote and build upon the long-standing positive relationship between Freemasonry and Scouting America (formerly Boy Scouts of America).
Q: Does CMSA support Scouting awards or recognitions?
A: Yes. One of CMSA’s key activities is to present the Masonic Eagle Scout Commendation, along with a letter of congratulations from the Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Connecticut, to new Eagle Scouts primarily in Connecticut, but occasionally in other states. In addition, CMSA supports and facilitates the Daniel Carter Beard Masonic Scouter Award for eligible Masons who are active as Scouters.
Q: How often does CMSA meet?
A: CMSA meets monthly on the second Thursday of the month to plan our various events, coordinate individuals to present Eagle Scout commendations, and conduct other regular business. For more information about CMSA meetings, visit our Events Page.
Q: Can I volunteer or serve on a committee within CMSA?
