The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) is the world's largest educational and scientific computing society, fostering knowledge, collaboration and innovation. ACM unities professionals, researchers, educators, and students to inspire dialogue and ideas that address the field's challenges. ACM provides career development, professional networking, and lifelong learning.
ACM Nagpur Professional Chapter has been working towards the above goals by executing various local events such as technical talks, workshops, and conferences. It carries out these activities in association with ACM India, various local organizations and, academic and professional institutes. Some of the key recent events executed by this chapter include talks by speakers from ACM Eminent Speaker Program, ACM India Annual Day 2018, COMPUTE 2020, ACM-W India Celebration of Women in Computing 2020, and CSPathshala workshops for schools.
The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) India started an education initiative, CSpathshala, to promote computational thinking in K-12. CSpathshala advocacy efforts paid off and the National Education Policy 2020 recommends that computational thinking be taught from foundational stages. CT curriculum has been piloted by 4,00,000+ students in 1200 schools across 11 states in 4 languages and Tamil Nadu SCERT has adopted the unplugged computational thinking curriculum as part of its mathematics curriculum for 30,000 schools from 2018.
Sakal Media Group has been running the Sakal NIE (Newspaper In Education) mainly for School students from the last 16 years. This Programme runs across Maharashtra in Pune,PCMC, Baramati, Satara, Ahmadnagar, Nashik, Aurangabad, Jalgaon, Nagpur, Amravati ,Kolhapur, Solapur ,Yavatmal ,Akola city, More than 40000 students from 300 School participate in this activity. The students from Standard 5th to 10th come under this group. We arrange different types of workshops & events under NIE from time to time. Also , Sakal NIE issues are published for writing & reading skill development. During the pandemic we continued to support the teachers, students and parents by conducting online webinars with expert resources both International and Indian teachers and educators. We also conducted online competitions for students and teachers. Counselling support was provided through We are in this together program.
