During the summer of 2023, I worked as an Astronomy Outreach Intern at Bryce Canyon National Park.
In the Spring of 2022 I began working as a TA for the Physics Department. I was a Teaching Assistant for PHYS 1425, Introductory Physics I for Scientists and Engineers.
In the Fall of 2022, I worked as a Teaching Assistant for PHYS 2415, Introductory Physics II for Scientists and Engineers. I maintained the office hour schedule, offered office hours, assisted students with in class group quizzes, and graded completed assignments.
In Spring of 2023, I worked as a Teaching Assistand for PHYS 2020, Introductory Physics II for Pre-Med Students. I maintained the office hour schedule, offered office hours, assisted students with in class group quizzes, and graded completed assignments.
During my time at Ocean Lakes High School I explored Teaching as a career though Virginia Teachers For Tomorrow (VTFT) I and II. In my first year, 2018-2019, I completed a 10 week internship in Mrs. Piper's Advanced 6th grade science class at Princess Anne Middle School. In my second year, 2019-2020, I began my internship in Mr. Prater's 8th grade Earth Science, however COVID-19 hit and my internship ended prematurely.
As a requirement for the courses, I put together a website with my teaching portfolios and kept a blog of my activities, which you can find here.
COVID-19 gave me the opportunity to explore virtual education through my job as a Code Sensei with Code Ninjas.
As a Code Sensei I have had the opportunity to teach coding to kids ages 7-14. With Sensei AJ, I lead the brand new Jr. Program that catered to kids age 4-7! I had a lot of fun, and even got to put some of my VTFT knowledge into practice. However with Covid-19 we had to close down our physical location, and I became a part of a team dedicated to making online curriculum for our Ninjas! I created videos, lead online Zoom Sessions, and created activities for kids to engage with, like the Minecraft Modding Video shown here!
I created this lesson in the Spring of 2019 for the Educators Rising Virginia State Competition. I designed this lesson and presented it to an Astronomy Class at my High School. The lesson recording and lesson plan were submitted to the Ed Rising STEM Lesson Planning and Delivery Competition, in which I placed third!
I also took third place in the Ed Rising Support Careers Competition, where I shadowed a librarian and reflected on the experience.
