 Code of Conduct

The Code Requirements

Representatives and volunteers operating on CSYCB business are expected to observe the highest standards of ethics, integrity and behaviour during the course of their duties.

The Code provides an overview of the CSYCB’s fundamental values. It is by no means exhaustive, but summarises some of the most important practices, which are also aligned to the Child Protection Act 1999 and Child Protection Regulation 2011. All adult members of the CSYCB, whether committee members or adult players, must have a valid Blue Card of which the details are stored confidentially in the CSYCB's Blue Card Organisational Portal.

The CSYCB’s representatives and volunteers are expected to conduct themselves in alignment with our organisational values in a professional, respectful and inclusive manner and observe the following standards of behaviour both at rehearsals and meetings, and outside in the wider community where the representative or volunteer can be perceived as representing the CSYCB:

At a CSYCB Music Rehearsal, EVERYBODY participates in:

•    Respecting all people and their abilities

•    Communicating respectfully

•    Behaving respectfully

•    Harassing no one

•    Respecting property, both their own and any hired or loaned

•    Respecting the Conductor/Music Director's authority

•    Recognising that each person has value and a contribution to make

1. The CSYCB Music community members* show respect at all times. Everyone has a right to learn, play and socialise in an environment free from all forms of harassment and discrimination. Respect for people means behaving in the spirit of goodwill and cooperation with consideration for others and includes: 

• Respectful communication - no use of offensive language or suggestions, including through swearing or gestures.

• Respectful behaviour towards:

a)    People within the CSYCB Music community, at any events in which we perform and their venue staff if applicable; and

b)    Other venue users and other people in public spaces where CSYCB is conducting activities.

• Freedom from harassment. No tolerance of any form of harassment or abuse (verbal, physical, emotional, or sexual). This includes offensive verbal comments (related to gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion), display of sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, persistent and unwanted communication, unwanted photography or recording, disruption of sessions or events, unwanted physical contact, and unwelcome attention.

• Respect for property involves:

1. Abiding by venue rules.  These may relate to food and drink, security and safety procedures, noise, smoking and alcohol use, amongst other matters.

2. No deliberate damage, theft or misuse of property regardless of ownership.

2. Privacy and Confidentiality: The CSYCB community will maintain privacy and confidentiality concerning records, documentation and any other communication containing personal information, unless consent is otherwise provided. For insurance, safety and security reasons, all CSYCB members need to provide a valid phone number, address & emergency contact prior to admission in CSYCB music rehearsals.
   
   

3. Recognition of Leadership: The CSYCB Conductor/Music Director and other CSYCB committee members have the authority to instruct a member of the CSYCB community to not attend rehearsals indefinitely with immediate effect if they are not abiding by the Code of Conduct. The CSYCB community member may discuss any decision with the CSYCB Managing Committee but this does not necessarily mean a decision will be changed.
   
   

4. Recognise the value of everyone’s opinion: There are opportunities for ideas, concerns and views to be shared with the Conductor/Music Director at rehearsals. Everyone has a voice and will be heard, however the Conductor/Music Director's decision must be final.
   
   

5. Maintenance of an Alcohol and Drug Free Environment at all CSYCB rehearsals and sessions.

*The CSYCB community members include volunteers, contractors, participants, carers and family members attending with participants.

Behaviour/s that conflict with this Code of Conduct will be addressed by verbal/written notification from the CSYCB Managing Committee. If the matters and/or behaviours persist, the member may be required to meet with the CSYCB Managing Committee where further action may be taken. For participants failing to abide by this Code of Conduct, the CSYCB Managing Committee reserves the right to exclude a member from any further CSYCB rehearsals and sessions.
