The Noyce seminars are an integral part of the Noyce Teacher Program. There are three main goals of the Noyce seminars:
1. Learn together and from one another in our Noyce community. We all bring different experiences, perspectives and expertise to the table. It is for this reason that if we wish to grow professionally as a community of teachers and to create and implement new and innovative ideas in education, we need everyone’s extremely valuable presence at the Noyce seminars.
2. Increase our effectiveness at mentoring and supporting the growth of new teachers. The community of Noyce mentor teachers will spend some of the seminar time working together to hone their skills at mentoring and to reflect as a group about what challenges that exist within the program and within the district and to work together to find creative solutions to these challenges.
3. The scholars will spend a portion of the seminar time working together to develop a deep understanding of classroom management. One major challenge in new teacher preparation is to adequately prepare new teachers for what is needed to manage a classroom and to engage their students. Scholars will think together about a large variety of classroom situations that may arise and develop strategies to handle them.
