In the exhibit titled Modern Pillars of Mesoamerica: An Exhibit in Homage to Mary Miller, Davíd Carrasco, and Frances Berdan, we will showcase publications of the three aforementioned scholars of Mesoamerican culture, as well as display Maya and Aztec artifacts, which will include ceramics, codices, and rare books from Cal State LA Special Collections and Archives. The purpose of this exhibit is to honor these three scholars who have advanced the fields of Mesoamerican Art, Anthropology, and History of Religion with their publications and their teaching careers. This exhibit will also celebrate Mary Miller and Frances Berdan’s engagement with the California community, particularly in their respective posts as head of the Getty Research Institute (Miller) and position as professor of Anthropology at California State University, San Bernardino. This exhibit, we hope, will communicate not only an appreciation of Mary Miller, Davíd Carrasco, and Frances Berdan, but also celebrate California history, as well as the broader history of this continent.
