HISTORY

Coryal Secondary School started off as one of the S.E.M.P. (Secondary Enhanced Modernization Program) schools back in the year 2000. "According to the Architect's brief which is the document that could be considered the birth certificate of the school, we were supposed to bear the name Coryal Government Secondary school. Even before our birth, we gained the name Coryal High School and now, like life, we have come full circle to be known as Coryal Secondary School. Add this to the fact that the school should have been built in the village of Coryal (hence the name) but was actually constructed in the village of Cumuto - which makes things all the more interesting.

Mrs. Claudia Gibbs (the first Principal) assumed leadership of a school that existed only on paper - the buildings were incomplete. Brazil High School kindly housed us for a time. There was a search on for staff to 'mind' this new baby. One year later, Mrs Gibbs took the 'toddler' school and its staff to its present address on Cumuto Main Road, just fives minutes walk from Little Cora Junction. Many years later, we continue to build on the foundation she left behind." (Coryal Secondary School Yearbook, 2010, pg. 3)
