WATER TREATMENT⇨ GROUNDWATER
What’s the Story?
Gush!!! Whoa! Sink and slip through soil, sand, and gravel. When water leaves a water treatment plant it travels through networks of pipes to get to all of the homes, businesses, and community buildings that use this potable water for drinking, cleaning, cooking, and more! Since much of this infrastructure is underground, it is not easily maintained, and many of these water systems were built long, long ago. Heat and cold make soils expand and contract, which can cause shifting and cracking in pipes. Older pipes may be metal that rusts, causing leakage. When small, these leaks are typically no big deal, but still large amounts of precious clean water is wasted. If a larger water “main” breaks, it can cause sinkholes, damage to roadways, and the community to lose water until the problem is fixed!
