PERMEABLE SURFACE/SOIL ⇨ GROUNDWATER

What’s the Story?

Lower, Lower, Sinking!! When precipitation falls on permeable surfaces like soil, some of it will be absorbed by the soil like a sponge. Top soil is just scratching the surface - there are other materials like clay, sand, gravel, and rock that water travels through to get into the groundwater or aquifer. Gravity and water pressure are two forces that move water from permeable surfaces, deeper into the ground. Groundwater is a very important resource for residents, industry, agriculture, and communities because it may be the potable water (clean/drinkable) supply that is relied upon for many essential uses!
