EFFLUENT ⇨ RIVER/STREAM
What’s the Story?
Swoosh! Effluent is water that has been treated and released back out into the water cycle, flowing from the end of a big pipe into a river! Even though it’s “clean” after a process at the wastewater treatment plant, it can still be carrying chemicals and contaminants out into the environment! Effluent can be highly chlorinated after disinfection, and can have other pollutants that are difficult to remove in the wastewater treatment process with available technology, such as microplastics, pharmaceuticals, chemicals from cleaning & personal care products, and toxic PFAS compounds. Yuck!
